They weren't made at an even x-number per year, so extrapolating your serial in that range isn't going to be exact. You have a .38 Military & Police model of 1905, 4th change, dating from the 1920s. I believe that S&W began stamping the one line "Made in USA" on the right side after 1921. The large ejector rod knob went away in the late twenties. Correct serial number is on the butt and at the rear of the cylinder.

The number you listed for the 10-5 is the assembly number, which is arbitrary and basically meaningless. The serial number of a Model 10 is found on the bottom of the grip frame.
